Backups

You buy insurance. You fund your IRA and/or 401K and take the time to find a good school for your kids. You plan for the future and the preservation of what you have. Yet, when it comes to the preserving your digital documents, often times you forget.

Maybe you went out and bought external hard drives during a Black Friday sale, or maybe you burned DVDs, or used the Cloud as your backup. But did you test it to verify that it worked? Until you double check, you don’t really know that your data has been stored on your backup device.

While you are thinking about electronic devices that need to be backed up, don’t forget about your smart phone. Nowadays, most people have albums-worth of photos and songs on them, and you don’t want to assume that all your precious memories and favorite tunes are on the cloud or synced to your computer without double checking.
