Apple has released iOS 12 to the general public as of Monday, September 17 and we have been hard at work updating a number of our mobile lab devices to the new operating system. Ā As OS upgrades go, this one has been fast and easy to both acquire over the air and to install ā although a few older devices have been slow to see the update.
One of the best things about iOS 12 is how much it speeds up older devices. Apple says things like opening the camera, showing the keyboard, and launching apps are all noticeably faster. This is great for anyone with an older iPhone or iPad who isnāt ready to buy a new one just yet.
Another cool feature is Screen Time, which gives you detailed info on how youāre using your device and lets you set limits on app usage and schedule downtime. This is super handy for parents who want to manage their kids’ screen time.
iOS 12 also brings Group FaceTime, where you can chat with up to 32 people at once. This is awesome for both catching up with friends and work meetings. This feature is delayed for now but should be available in a later update.
Since Apple did not change the hardware requirements needed to run iOS 12 (theyāre the same as the iOS 11 requirements), weāve been able to quickly roll out the update to a wide range of devices, including various models of iPad, iPad Mini, iPhone 6, iPhone 7 and iPhone 8. Ā Weāll be leaving out testing iPhone X on iOS 11 for the time being, since the new XR, XS, and XS-Max phones will come with the new OS when they arrive.
Keep checking back here with us from time to time if you are interested in our constantly expanding hardware inventory, and how you can leverage it for your unique QA needs.Ā You can also contact us if you have any questions about our QA labs or services.
