Voice-activated Products Are On the Rise

Voice-activated products such as Amazonā€™s Alexa or Google Home will likely become a common find in the modern home.

Imagine waking up in the morning and simply saying, “Alexa, play the news” while you get ready for work. With Google Home, you could say, “Hey Google, set a timer for 20 minutes for my pancakes,” all without lifting a finger. These assistants will be able to control smart home devices, like thermostats and lights, allowing you to adjust the temperature or brightness with your voice. They’ll also be able to answer your questions, provide weather updates, and even add items to your shopping list.

But the capabilities go far beyond basic controls.

Again, imagine being in the kitchen, covered in flour while prepping dinner, and needing to know how to convert cups to grams. No problem! Just ask your voice assistant, “Alexa, how many grams are in a cup?” The assistant will instantly provide the answer you need, allowing you to continue cooking without missing a beat.Ā

Need a quick dance break while you wait for the oven to preheat? Say, “Hey Google, play my workout playlist!” Your favorite music will fill the room. The possibilities are truly endless, making these voice-activated products a game-changer for how we interact with technology in our homes.

Gone are the days when doing things manually was the norm.

Homes nowadays are becoming smarter, depending on someoneā€™s preference. As this is one of the choices of anyone who wants to have their own home, challenges arise. Many people will still prefer having homes with manual ways of doing things. Automation comes into the picture, with voice commands, directly affecting the devices. Voice-activated products produced by big tech companies, particularly Amazon and Google, dominate the consumer market.Ā

The question is: are you ready to own one?

The convenience of owning one is indisputable and very affordable. The ease of use of these products is constantly improving as well. With the prevalence of Wi-Fi-connected devices in the home, a homeowner could command functions such as turning on and off lights, control thermostats, run sprinklers as well as answer trivia or play music. Youā€™ll never have an excuse not to look up the definition of a word.
